Through the simple words of thank you, or a smile, or a little prayer said silently expresses our gratitude. People don’t do it a lot these days. It’s not as if I have lived in eras before, but I would like to believe that they were more grateful then, even if our generation has a lot more to be thankful for. It may not solve the grave injustices in the world, but it can do enough justice to our soul to live better each day.

For anyone who has passed through adolescence, we have all experienced hate and bigotry. Whether it was committed by or unto us, we are all too familiar of such negativity. Maybe it was just hormones, or a cowardly retreat from the bigger issues at hand, or maybe a combination of both - what’s done is done. It took me a while to grow out of the teenage angst movement but I’m somehow getting there. I used to blow my lid off with just about the most trivial of things. It’s actually better to be grateful than be full of hate. Negativity is unnecessary and it drags you down. Saying “thank you’s” won’t solve your problem, but you will be so much better off when facing them. When faced with hate, maybe the most appropriate response would be to ignore them or you could just say thank you and annoy the hate out of people.

Just be grateful and you’ll be surprised how lucky you really are.
