Emma is a place, an idea you get hung up on.

Once I was asked by a friend, “What makes you get up in the morning?” This was the time I felt like my job wasn’t going anywhere. I hesitated for a while, thought hard on the question, and gave out a profound quip. Looking back, I needed to say that for some sense of reassurance for the both of us. Even if I only believed half of it.
But now at a stage of transition in my...

Something infinitely interesting: What Ateneans Do... →
There is truth to this post and as I look back on my attitude towards work and career, I guess I have been guilty of some of the things that she enumerated. And I’ve met people who are worse - Atenean or otherwise. I’m glad that she wrote it. I’ve heard about this idea while talking with other people, at least she had the balls to write what others are just too polite to say to...

For Flaviana
Family is one of the most important things we have in our lifetime. Our families are never perfect, they are not absolute, but we never ask them to be. We accept them as they are. We love our siblings, our parents, our cousins, our grandparents, our uncles and aunts because of the basic reason that we are bound by the same bloodline. Our genetic traits along with other aspects of our being make up...

Why isn’t everything turning out as it should be? What am I doing wrong? Am I asking for a lot? I can write all the cuss words I know and even that wouldn’t change anything at all. I can’t believe I’m stuck in the same rut as I was a year ago, only this time in a different setting.
How could fate and the universe be so sadistic? I was so close, but it was still quite...

Uncle: ...that's why you have to start right now.
Me: But how do I start? I don't have the money.
Uncle: That's your problem.
Me: What?
Uncle: You just said "No" to it right away. One stumbling block and you immediately said "No".
Me: How do I get it then?
Uncle: If it's really what you want, you will find a way.

Have you figured out what you want to do with your life? The career, that path, that vocation of a calling for which were meant to be. How do you know if that is what you want? Does it come as a sign, an intuition - a gut feeling wherein all circumstance tells you that this is what you are destined be? Or does it come, unannounced in an ordinary day, a decision made as trivial as many others?
So...

To be or not to be?
I recently came across an article from Forbes.com - a list of the “Happiest” and “Most Hated” jobs. The happiest jobs included clergymen, firemen, writers, sculptors & painters, teachers, etc. These careers don’t really make a lot of money, but the people in these jobs have been known to be the happiest. Most probably because of the altruistic nature of the job...

What makes a man happy?
So, have we solved the secret of happiness?
"I believe so," he said.
Are you going to tell me?
"Yes. Ready?"
Ready.
"Be satisfied."
That's it?
"Be grateful."
That's it?
"For what you have. For the love you receive. And for what God has given you."
That's it?
He looked me in the eye. Then he sighed deeply.
"That's it."

Road Trip Music
Haven’t done this in a while. Music that’s great for listening when you’re on the road, or just about anywhere you find yourself in.
Of Monster and Men - Little Talks (makes me wish I was in Iceland)
Sara Bareilles - King of Anything
Tracy Chapman - Give Me One Reason (lol at the guy’s dancing in the first part)
John Mayer - Heartbreak Warfare
Florence + the...

Doing a business plan on a Saturday night is the coolest thing I’ve done after college. Sarcasm aside, I am actually enjoying it.
And yes, I am using a typewriter.

Goodbye chances-of-getting-into-that-grad school, I pretty much didn’t get the cut. Well, being on the waitlist wasn’t really a failure. I’m not going to rant because I don’t feel that down anyway. I’m disappointed for sure, but I guess it really wasn’t for me. I wonder where my life will go on from here. I have been thinking a lot about the other alternatives...

Through the simple words of thank you, or a smile, or a little prayer said silently expresses our gratitude. People don’t do it a lot these days. It’s not as if I have lived in eras before, but I would like to believe that they were more grateful then, even if our generation has a lot more to be thankful for. It may not solve the grave injustices in the world, but it can do enough...

On Running
It’s nice to run. There’s no other perfect way to blow off some steam than to put on a pair of battered running shoes, limber up for a bit, and just run the hell out the door like Forest Gump high on energy drink.
Just me with the flit and flop of rubber on cement under my feet. Ah, freedom - so sweet, so dusty, so polluted, but I’ll run faster anyway until my lungs gape for air...
